New Realization!

Posted in Uncategorized on July 3, 2008 by riamehta

So i’m at the mall, and I always thought I was obsessed with jewelry..
You know, earrings (I have a whole collection on display), bangles,
etc.. But no!! As of right now, I have finally realized…

I am obsessed with bags and shoes !!!

Imagine realizing that after 20+ years of my life? I am officially in
shock :s (I guess I should have realized it when I started spending
hundreds of dollars on a bag.. lol) But anyway, that’s that……

Back to shopping now, more later..!

**W0W** to Guitar Hero and Rockband on the WII!!!!

Posted in Uncategorized on July 3, 2008 by riamehta

So i FINALLY got my chance to play both games……. and all I could say at the end was, WOOWWWW!!!!!

I am now obsessed with the Wii……. Oh my God, What genius skills to have created a system like it!!! Not only are the games good, but some of them (think Guitar Hero and Rockband) are just amazingggggg…
Initially I failed every song (like, the first 3 :P ) on Guitar Hero, but then… once you get a hang of it, it is sooo fun to play! Definitely a must-try for anyone who can (afford not only the games but also the Wii and) get their hands on it!!!
Anyway, back to Rockband for me…  back in a bit!

The trickiness of Apple :o

Posted in 3G iPhone, iPhone 3G update on July 2, 2008 by riamehta

Oh.. my.. GOD! Apple has released their new 3G iPhone pricing details, and not everyone is going to be eligible for the $199 8Gb iPhone price.

To be eligible:
1. You have to open a new AT&T line or
2. BE eligible for an upgrade through your previous contract or
3. Buy the current iPhone model anytime before July 11….
Do you know what that means? That means that people like us, who bought our iPhones within the last year and upgraded to 2 year contracts, will still have to buy the new iPhone 3G for $399 AND pay a minimum of $69.99/mo…. Wow, aren’t I just better off with my old $399 iPhone and a $59.99/mo. plan?!
I pity the people who have already sold their phones(including the current iPhone model for under half the price) in the excitement of buying the new iPhone 3G…  :/
Anyway, you can read more about the iPhone 3G details here

Ah, the good life…

Posted in Uncategorized on July 2, 2008 by riamehta

Todays day went mostly in travel….. from Franklin, MA to Boston, MA.. then Boston, MA to New York, NY, and New York, NY to Chatham, NJ.

Except for the last part of my journey (NY to NJ), all parts of this trip were Wifi enabled… yes, the trains AND the busses! Ah, the good life ;)
More and more cities(think London, etc) are enabling wi-fi access throughout their areas, but to have wi-fi on the move is just way better. Journeys end faster, you can check mail even if you’re out the whole day.. I mean, what more can people ask from public transport!!!
Anyhow, looks like this week/end is going to be full of fun… To be in New York on the 4th of July? Woohoo! What more could I ask for ;)
Will keep you posted with the news and pics.. stay tuned :)

Wha ba ME????

Posted in Uncategorized on July 1, 2008 by riamehta

So when I was a kid, that used to be my thing to say… you know, when everyone leaving the room or anyone eating without serving me first……. Ha Ha! (Yes, I was pretty spoiled.. :P )

But anyway….. times changed… I grew up…… (and all that blah) but sometimes the kid in me still wonders…. what ABOUT me? I mean just ‘coz we grow up, we don’t need any looking after? I don’t know.. I mean being a grown up has its plusses, but it has soooo many more minuses than I would’ve thought when I was a kid…… somebody should’ve WARNED me!!! lol
Just some food for thought :/
Anyway……… need to be up bright and early for the dentists tomorrow……. (gotta walk 4 miles!!!) So I’ll be off…
Good night and Sweet dreams (to those who dare to dream :) )

Immense pain, loads of meds, and 6 movies later…

Posted in Movies on July 1, 2008 by riamehta

So the last couple of days in my life have been sooo monotonous, that I need a new word for monotonous.. (no, really :P )

Aside from having terrible toothaches (and, therefore, not being able to eat much :/), I have watched 6 movies in the last 48 hours……. Yes, what an accomplishment. It’s not like I do much these days other than sleep and eat anyways, but 6 is a bit much, even for someone like me… hehehe…
Anyways, the movies I watched were:
Wanted
27 Dresses
Inside Man
Blood Diamond
and the TV shows:
IIFA awards 2008
Filmfare 2008
Ok so that makes 4 movies and 2 TV shows… (those TV shows are, btw, each 2.5 hours long… so I think they should be counted like movies :P ) Having seen all the movies before (except Wanted), I definitely want to mention how much I liked Wanted…. (more on that later)
A comment on this years IIFA: Where were all the stars? Why weren’t people like Preity Zinta or John Abraham there? What a disappointment… :/ I’m actually going to send my first comment/question to Amitabh Bachchan’s blog and ask him why there.. will keep you posted here on the response (if any!)
Anyways, I’m going to play poker now………… HEHEHEHE
More later!

“the best thing you can do.. is find a person who loves you, for exactly what you are..good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, whatever.. the right person’s still gonna think the sun shines out of your ass.. thats the kind of person worth sticking with.” – Juno’s dad, JUNO
“Be calm, love me – today – yesterday – what tearful longings for you – you – you – my life – my all – farewell. Oh continue to love me – never misjudge the most faithful heart of your beloved.
ever thine
ever mine
ever ours” – Beethoven (and Sex and the City)

“Im not a perfect girl..

Definitely, Maybe… (the movie), and me.

Posted in definitely maybe on June 28, 2008 by riamehta

So after so many months of its release, I finally got down to watch Definitely, Maybe… Don’t get me wrong, being a movie freak I should’ve watched this aaaaaages ago when the movie was actually in theaters, but because it came out when there were so many other good movies, it never happened……

I am really, really glad I saw it. It is definitely a chic flick, BUT, it is also so realistic that it makes you rethink your life, while also giving you the hope that hey, in the end, things will be alright. A feel-good movie, I would definitely recommend this movie for anyone who wants to smile!
Anyway, this movie really got me to thinking… Sure, shit happens in life.. and sure, things never go according to plan… but what’s meant to be will always happen, no matter how hard we try to change things or avoid them.
It also made me realize that HEY! it’s OK to screw up, and not live life with every second planned…… Since my life (at the moment), is not like I had planned at all, it definitely gives me that cheering up that could make any person smile.
Before signing off, I have to add: I know, thinking realistically, it is, at the end of the day, JUST a movie…. but being a firm believer in happy-endings, it is a movie I will always cherish…. And so, with that thought…
Good Night :)
p.s… a 4 on 5 for the movie.

"Over Heard in New York"

Posted in Uncategorized on June 27, 2008 by riamehta

So while being my usual jobless self today, I was going through some of my very, very oldbookmarks, and stumbled on a site called Over Heard in New York | The Voice of the City. I had completely forgotten about how AWESOME this page was!!!

Basically the site consists of conversations that people overhear in the City. Some of them are sooo funny, it makes my stomach hurt. Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

1. Bus driver: Everyone get on the bus, I got a schedule. For those of you sneaking on in the back, can you at least do it fast? I’ve got places to be.
–on the B45 Bus

2. Conductor: This train is very crowded. If you cannot fit, please step back and wait for the next train. If you manage to get onto this very crowded train, look at the person next to you and tell them, “Howdy!”

–Queens bound F train

3.

Coworker #1: So what’ve you been up to?
Coworker #2: The usual. Just whacked off.
Coworker #1: Dude, you’re on speakerphone.
–Office, Midtown

4. Sassy flight attendant: In the event of a loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will be released from the overhead above your seat. After the screaming subsides, please place the oxygen mask around your nose and mouth. If you are traveling with a child or an adult who is acting like a child, place your mask on first before attempting to help put theirs on.
–Flight out of LaGuardia
5. Small child, trying a Sprite: I don’t like it.
Dad: If you don’t like the taste, just spit it out.
Mom: I’ve heard that one before.
–33rd & 7th
Lots more where those came from… I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I did! They’ve revamped the site since I was last there, and its looking better now…
Happy reading :)

A salute to Bill Gates…

Posted in bill gates on June 27, 2008 by riamehta

Yes yes, this may sound shocking (because to those of you who know me, I am a die hard Apple fan!) but I actually applaud Bill Gates.. not only for being one of the richest men in the world, but for also being one of the biggest philanthropists around..!

It’s never easy to be one of the poor and then become one of the richest men in the world (lol) but Bill Gates did exactly that.. Sure, luck may have been on his side, but it also takes determination to become what he is today.
To be a founder of one of the greatest softwares in the world (Microsoft, duh :P ) and still be down to earth is something very rare in today’s world – Hence, I salute him! He bid his farewell speech to Microsoft today, and here comes a new era for his beloved company…..
You can read about his short biography here, or also see a short video of his work here.
